Criminal law can be difficult to read, and harder to navigate during a stressful moment. CCH explains offences, legal terms, court processes, and Criminal Code sections in plain language so that non-lawyers can find a reliable starting point for understanding what the law generally means.
What We Do
We publish general legal-information content about Canadian criminal law.
We maintain a directory of lawyer and law-firm profiles related to criminal defence services in Canada so that readers who need legal advice can identify lawyers they may wish to contact.
How We Approach Content
We treat every page as public legal-information content. Each page is intended to be accurate, restrained, properly sourced where appropriate, and clear about its own limits.
Because the law changes, we treat our content as a living resource rather than a finished article. If you believe a page is inaccurate, outdated, or unclear, you can report it through our Accuracy & Reporting page.

Scope and Currency
Our pages cover Criminal Code offences and related federal statutes, such as the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Cannabis Act, and the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Criminal procedure can vary by province and territory, and the law changes over time through amendments and court decisions. Information on this site may be out of date by the time you read it. Always confirm current law and local procedure with a lawyer licensed in your province or territory.
About the Directory
Profiles in our directory may be unclaimed, claimed, verified, or featured.
A “Verified” profile means only that the lawyer or an authorized representative has claimed or confirmed the profile with CCH, unless the profile expressly says otherwise.
A “Featured” profile or placement may be a paid promotional placement. Featured status does not mean that CCH endorses, recommends, certifies, or guarantees the lawyer.
CCH does not verify a lawyer’s licensing status, good standing, disciplinary record, availability, fees, expertise, or suitability for your matter. To confirm whether a lawyer is licensed and in good standing, check the public directory of the law society or legal regulator in the relevant province or territory.
