These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of Criminal Code Help, operated by Crime Codex Inc.
By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
2. General Information Only
Criminal Code Help provides general legal information about Canadian criminal law. It does not provide legal advice.
The Site does not apply the law to your specific situation. For legal advice, speak with a licensed lawyer.
3. No Lawyer-Client Relationship
Using Criminal Code Help does not create a lawyer-client relationship with Crime Codex Inc., Criminal Code Help, any lawyer listed on the Site, or any other person.
Contacting a lawyer after finding that lawyer through Criminal Code Help does not, by itself, create a lawyer-client relationship. A lawyer-client relationship is created only if a lawyer agrees to act for you.
4. Lawyer Directory
The lawyer directory is provided for public convenience and general information.
CCH does not endorse, recommend, certify, guarantee, or warrant any lawyer, law firm, legal service, listing, claimed profile, verified profile, or featured profile.
A "Verified" profile means only that the lawyer or an authorized representative has claimed or confirmed the profile with CCH, unless the profile expressly says otherwise.
A "Featured" profile or placement may be a paid promotional placement. Featured status does not mean that the lawyer is better, more qualified, more experienced, more suitable, or endorsed by CCH.
You are responsible for checking a lawyer's licensing status, good standing, disciplinary history, availability, fees, services, and suitability. To confirm licence status or good standing, check the public directory of the relevant provincial or territorial law society or legal regulator.
5. Permitted Use
You may use the Site for personal, informational, and non-commercial purposes.
You may not:
- scrape, crawl, harvest, or bulk extract content or directory data;
- copy, reproduce, republish, sell, license, or commercially exploit substantial portions of the Site;
- use the Site to build a competing directory, database, or service;
- misuse forms or submit false, misleading, abusive, unlawful, or spam content;
- interfere with the security, performance, or operation of the Site;
- attempt unauthorized access to any system, account, database, or server;
- use the Site in a way that violates applicable law; or
- use information from the Site to harass, solicit, spam, mislead, or harm any person.
Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot be limited by law, including fair dealing or other legally permitted uses.
6. Intellectual Property
The Site, including its design, organization, original text, graphics, software, structure, branding, and other original materials, is owned by Crime Codex Inc. or its licensors, except where otherwise stated.
These Terms do not give you ownership of the Site or any content on it.
Third-party marks, logos, names, legal sources, public legal materials, lawyer-submitted materials, and external materials remain the property of their respective owners.
You may not use CCH branding, logos, original content, or site materials except as permitted by these Terms or with written permission from Crime Codex Inc.
7. Content You Submit
If you submit content to CCH, including profile information, photographs, biographies, law-firm information, public contact details, messages, or correction reports, you are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to submit it and that it is accurate, lawful, and not misleading.
For content submitted for public display, you grant CCH a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, format, reproduce, edit for formatting, and promote that content solely for the purpose of operating, displaying, and promoting Criminal Code Help and the relevant profile, listing, or service.
You retain ownership of your submitted content.
This licence ends when the relevant content or listing is removed, except that CCH may retain copies for a reasonable period for backup, legal, compliance, dispute-resolution, or recordkeeping purposes.
CCH may remove, edit, refuse, or disable submitted content at any time.
8. Accuracy and Availability
CCH works to provide accurate and useful information, but the Site may contain errors, omissions, outdated information, broken links, or incomplete material.
CCH does not guarantee that the Site will be complete, current, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
You should verify legal information against current legislation, court decisions, official sources, and advice from a lawyer.
9. Third-Party Links and Services
The Site may link to third-party websites or services. These links are provided for convenience.
CCH is not responsible for third-party websites, lawyer websites, external content, external privacy practices, or services provided by third parties.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties, representations, or conditions of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise.
CCH disclaims all warranties and conditions of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, availability, and reliability, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Crime Codex Inc., Criminal Code Help, and their directors, officers, employees, contractors, agents, and service providers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, exemplary, or similar damages arising from or related to your use of, inability to use, or reliance on the Site.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law.
12. Privacy
Your use of the Site is subject to the CCH Privacy Policy.
13. Changes to the Site or Terms
CCH may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Site at any time.
CCH may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on the Site with a revised "Last updated" date.
Your continued use of the Site after updated Terms are posted means you accept the updated Terms.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Alberta, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Where applicable consumer protection, privacy, or other laws give you rights that cannot be limited by these Terms, those rights continue to apply.
